Arsenic Problem in Bangladesh composition
In our day to day life we are experiencing new kind of problem. Our environment is facing new type of pollution. Arsenic pollution is one of them. When the presence of arsenic in water is higher than the acceptable quantity. It is called arsenic. It is one of the biggest problems in Bangladesh. Arsenic pollution is causing much harm to Bangladesh. The number of arsenic affected people is increasing day by day.
Arsenic was first detected in Bangladesh in 1984. During that period about 2500 shallow tube wells were tested in 34 districts out of which each and every tube-well was detected arsenic polluted. Another-survey conducted jointly by the DPHL (Department of Public Health Engineering) and British Geological Survey 2000 showed that more that 90% of the shallow tube-wells in the most seriously arsenic polluted areas produced contaminated water exceeding .05 mg/l of arsenic. It also marked that the most affected area in Bangladesh is North Bengal.
Thousands of people in Bangladesh are suffering from arsenic poisonings and more are being affected every day. Poison by arsenic is a slow process. It is due to a gradual build-up of the poison in the human body. Eventually people start to show symptoms and become unwell. It causes sore in the fingers or in any other part of the body. Sometimes the sore turns into gangrene and then to cancer. It also affects different parts of the human body like liver, kidney, heart, stomach, skin etc. Arsenic poisoning also causes irritation and serious burning of skins, hair falling, cough etc.
At present there is no medical treatment or medicine that can prevent any disease caused by arsenicosis. Since there is no effective cure, preventive measures should be taken properly. Arsenic contamination can be mitigated to a large extent if the following preventive measures are
adopted: 10 The people are to be made conscious of the harmful effect of the arsenic poisoning. (u) They are to give knowledge of the symptoms of arsenic contamination and places where they can get proper treatment.
In order to have the clear conception regarding arsenic pollution, regular survey should be done althrough the country. All the tube-wells should be tested to separate the safe from the unsafe. Safe tubewells should be painted green and unsafe ones should be painted red. In order to ensure the supply of pure drinking water, more deep tubewells should be installed because deep tubewells are free from arsenic and bacterias. But they will also have to be tested in the future to ensure that it is still the case.
Surface water in ponds and rivers is a potential source of arsenic-free water. But most surface water in our country is heavily polluted with dangerous bacteria. So, no surface water should be used without some form of treatment. Rain water should be collected for drinking in a bacteria free container. Water need not to be boiled to remove arsenic because boiling does not remove arsenic. Heathy balanced diet containing fish and vegetables should be taken. Food containing vitamin A. C and E should be taken. It is high time we found out the cause of arsenic pollution and put our all out efforts to fight this public-hazard before it takes a serious turn.

আমাদের দৈনন্দিন জীবনে আমরা নতুন ধরণের সমস্যার সম্মুখীন হচ্ছি। আমাদের পরিবেশ নতুন ধরনের দূষণের সম্মুখীন হচ্ছে। এর মধ্যে আর্সেনিক দূষণ অন্যতম। পানিতে আর্সেনিকের উপস্থিতি গ্রহণযোগ্য পরিমাণের চেয়ে বেশি হলে। একে বলা হয় আর্সেনিক। এটা বাংলাদেশের সবচেয়ে বড় সমস্যাগুলোর একটি। আর্সেনিক দূষণ বাংলাদেশের অনেক ক্ষতি করছে। আর্সেনিক আক্রান্তের সংখ্যা দিন দিন বাড়ছে।
১৯৮৪ সালে বাংলাদেশে প্রথম আর্সেনিক শনাক্ত করা হয়। ওই সময়কালে ৩৪টি জেলায় প্রায় ২৫০০ অগভীর নলকূপ পরীক্ষা করা হয় যার মধ্যে প্রতিটি নলকূপে আর্সেনিক দূষিত ধরা পড়ে। ডিপিএইচএল (জনস্বাস্থ্য প্রকৌশল বিভাগ) এবং ব্রিটিশ ভূতাত্ত্বিক জরিপ 2000 দ্বারা যৌথভাবে পরিচালিত আরেকটি-জরিপ দেখায় যে সবচেয়ে গুরুতর আর্সেনিক দূষিত এলাকার অগভীর নলকূপের 90% এর বেশি .05 মিলিগ্রাম/লিটার বেশি আর্সেনিকের দূষিত জল তৈরি করে। . এটি আরও চিহ্নিত করেছে যে বাংলাদেশের সবচেয়ে বেশি ক্ষতিগ্রস্থ এলাকা হল উত্তরবঙ্গ।
বাংলাদেশে হাজার হাজার মানুষ আর্সেনিকের বিষক্রিয়ায় ভুগছে এবং প্রতিদিন আরও বেশি আক্রান্ত হচ্ছে। আর্সেনিক দ্বারা বিষ একটি ধীর প্রক্রিয়া। এটি মানবদেহে বিষের ধীরে ধীরে বিল্ড আপের কারণে। অবশেষে লোকেরা লক্ষণগুলি দেখাতে শুরু করে এবং অসুস্থ হয়ে পড়ে। এতে আঙ্গুলে বা শরীরের অন্য কোনো অংশে ঘা হয়। কখনও কখনও ঘা গ্যাংগ্রিন এবং তারপর ক্যান্সারে পরিণত হয়। এটি মানবদেহের বিভিন্ন অংশ যেমন লিভার, কিডনি, হৃদপিন্ড, পাকস্থলী, ত্বক ইত্যাদিকেও প্রভাবিত করে। আর্সেনিকের বিষক্রিয়ার কারণে ত্বকে জ্বালাপোড়া ও মারাত্মক জ্বালা, চুল পড়া, কাশি ইত্যাদিও হয়।
বর্তমানে আর্সেনিকোসিসজনিত কোনো রোগ প্রতিরোধ করতে পারে এমন কোনো চিকিৎসা বা ওষুধ নেই। যেহেতু কোন কার্যকর প্রতিকার নেই, তাই প্রতিরোধমূলক ব্যবস্থা সঠিকভাবে নেওয়া উচিত। নিম্নলিখিত প্রতিরোধমূলক ব্যবস্থা গ্রহণ করলে আর্সেনিক দূষণ অনেকাংশে প্রশমিত করা যায়

আর্সেনিক দূষণ সম্পর্কে স্পষ্ট ধারণা পেতে হলে সারা দেশে নিয়মিত জরিপ করতে হবে। নিরাপদ থেকে নিরাপদ আলাদা করার জন্য সমস্ত নলকূপ পরীক্ষা করা উচিত। নিরাপদ টিউবওয়েলগুলিকে সবুজ রঙ করতে হবে এবং অনিরাপদগুলিকে লাল রঙ করতে হবে। বিশুদ্ধ পানীয় জলের সরবরাহ নিশ্চিত করার জন্য, আরও গভীর টিউবওয়েল স্থাপন করতে হবে কারণ গভীর টিউবওয়েল আর্সেনিক এবং ব্যাকটেরিয়া মুক্ত। তবে এটি এখনও আছে কিনা তা নিশ্চিত করার জন্য ভবিষ্যতে তাদের পরীক্ষাও করতে হবে।

C এবং E যুক্ত খাবার খেতে হবে। আর্সেনিক দূষণের কারণ খুঁজে বের করার এবং এর বিরুদ্ধে লড়াই করার জন্য আমাদের সর্বাত্মক প্রচেষ্টা চালানোর সময় এসেছে। এটি একটি গুরুতর মোড় নেওয়ার আগেই জনসাধারণের বিপদ।
